Agland Turf - EMPIRE Zoysia

Agland Turf – “EMPIRE”

Probably the hardest lawn in the world to wear out. Only the better Buffalo varieties have more shade tolerance. Almost indestructible rolls or slabs. With such little mowing required, it is the ideal lawn for slopes.

Unlike other Zoysia grasses, EMPIRE™ is not too slow. In fact compared to other Zoysias lawns, EMPIRE™ is super fast, however EMPIRE™ still requires less mowing than Couch, Kikuyu, and Buffalo turf.

Agland Turf - PALMETTO Buffalo

Agland Turf – “PALMETTO Buffalo”

Palmetto Buffalo Grass is a tough, soft leaf Buffalo that is available Australia wide. This turf provides a lawn grass that has excellent winter colour, and can generally out compete weeds when established. Palmetto Buffalo Grass generally requires less watering and less mowing than most other turf varieties available in Instant turf rolls or slabs, and in Viro-Cell Lawn for patch up.

*Palmetto is the #1 selling brand of Buffalo grass in the world. With combined sales in the U.S., Australia and South Africa, no other proprietary brand of Buffalo grass comes close to the quantity sold.

Palmetto Buffalo grass performs well in full sun, yet thrives in shaded areas where other grasses fail. A Palmetto Buffalo lawn requires 2 to 4 hours of direct sunlight. No grass can survive in extreme shade, but Palmetto is better than others. Palmetto has the best winter active growth, so it is less likely to drop out in shaded areas in winter.

One of the main reasons people buy Buffalo is that it requires less mowing.

Palmetto has a massive deep root system, making it more drought resistant. Palmetto Buffalo Grass is the efficient water user and it stays greener for longer in dry conditions, making it the most likely lawn of all to stay green all year round. Palmetto Buffalo Turf is a winter green and summer green grass.

Agland Turf - SAPPHIRE Buffalo

Agland Turf – “SAPPHIRE Buffalo”

Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Grass has performance as good as any other buffalo turf, with the added benefit of a fine texture. A Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Lawn grows quickly across the ground, providing quick recovery from wear, has excellent winter colour, and has a deep root system.

A Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Lawn has a colour that is truly amazing, its deep green colour will make your home lawn “the envy of the street”.

Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Grass has a super fine texture. So if you want a buffalo lawn, but don’t like a coarse looking leaf, then a Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Lawn is for you. Other great performing buffalo lawns have a much coarser looking texture compared to Sapphire Soft leaf Buffalo Grass.

Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo Grass has excellent winter colour in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide (provided it is fertilised in April). It will go dormant in colder areas like Canberra, but it will hold its winter colour longer than most varieties.

New Sapphire Soft Leaf Buffalo (Stenotaphrum secundatum ‘B12’ PBR) was bred from the older Sir Walter Buffalo Turf variety. Sapphire is the next generation of Buffalo. It’s finer, softer, and better looking than other Buffalo types, yet it performs as good as any other Buffalo.

Sapphire, the best looking Buffalo. “For a real gem of a grass, buy Sapphire!”

Agland Turf - NARA Zoysia

Agland Turf – “NARA Zoysia”

Nara is a low maintenance grass that is naturally very drought tolerant. It is generally a coastal grass but has been proven to work well many hundreds of kilometres inland. Common Zoysia macrantha is very salt tolerant, so it is no surprise that Nara has this quality as well, although Nara is better watered with fresh water when possible.

In tests, Nara had much more salt tolerance than Empire, which is known for its excellent salt tolerance in comparison to other grasses. When Nara was tested and compared to a selection of common Zoysia macrantha types in breeding, it had salt tolerance at the mid to lower end of the species. Not as high as some, but still much higher than Couch, Buffalo and Empire.

In drought studies, Zoysia macrantha was found to be more drought tolerant than Buffalo and Couch turf. With Nara being the first and only commercial Zoysia macrantha, this is great news for anyone needing an extremely drought tolerant native turf.

Agland Turf - KENDA Kikuyu

Agland Turf – “KENDA Kikuyu”

Kenda is a Kikuyu with great drought and wear tolerance. This is because of its deep and strong rhizomes that hold the turf together. As well as being able to handle heavy wear and prolonged drought, Kenda is fast to establish.

Although it establishes faster than other Kikuyu types, it doesn’t need more mowing. It grows more horizontally than vertically, meaning it will be at a smaller height than other Kikuyu turf when unmown.

Kenda is more uniform and has a denser appearance than common Kikuyu. Kikuyu, like Couch, needs regular mowing or it will get untidy and thin out. Kenda seems to be denser than the common form when left unmown, making it a more uniform and beautiful Kikuyu.

Common Kikuyu and seeded types regularly produce viable seed, which can spread via a number of methods. Kenda is a male sterile turf, producing little or no viable seed heads, making it a safer option.*

There have been no yellow leaves observed on Kenda, while other varieties have had little Kikuyu yellows appearing over summer. During trials, Kenda also appeared to have better winter colour than the common form of Kikuyu.
